His father was a normal neko-born human,and mother a Fighter. They died in a serious and fatal car crash when he was age 5. His mother not only gave her ability to Soubi as a fighter, but also her looks. He is a former student of Shichisei Gakuen (often translated as Academy of Septimal Moon), a school for fighters where Ritsu Minami was his teacher.
As ordered, Soubi contacted Ritsuka after Seimei's death. He introduced Ritsuka to the world of fighters and sacrifices, and told Ritsuka he would be his fighter. Although Soubi's "true name" is Beloved and Ritsuka's is Loveless, they fight as a pair, which is considered taboo. There is also a severe loss of strength, and in Soubi's case, his marking bleeds in battle. Since meeting Ritsuka, Soubi doesn't operate under the Beloved name, and effectively abandoned it altogether.
Soubi appears to know much more about Seimei and his cause of death than he will divulge. Despite Ritsuka's insistence that he tell him everything he knows, Soubi refuses. He openly declares that he lives his life by Seimei's orders, but still says he'll obey Ritsuka's every order.
Many readers and characters in the story itself label Soubi as a masochist. He is extremely contradictory, and says conflicting things on pain and control, making his true feelings unclear. A popular theory among readers is that Soubi is selective, and only desires punishment from those he deems worthy and strong such as Seimei and Ritsuka. In support of this theory, Soubi shuns Ritsu's offers to control his life.
Soubi lives alone in a loft apartment,often visited by his best friend Kio Kaidou and his young sacrifice Ritsuka. Soubi likes to wear tight shirts and pants,open shirts,women's fur coats,trench coats,high school jock jackets,tunics, and old thrift shop clothes. Very Visual Kei and beatnik. He appears in the anime,manga,and many pictures to have many a wardrobe. But he adores his purple coat trimmed in fur. He smokes heavily when bored. Often lighting one then the other in a 5-10 min period. He has stated he smokes a pack of Seven Star Menthols a day when bored!
WHY WE LIKE HIM....
MAYAMA: I like Soubi because he is pretty, really pretty. Also the fact that he's artsy scores him some points too. One of the big reasons I like Soubi is because he is so tortured, it's kind of hot. His very large vocabulary and way with words are just the tasty icing on Soubi's cake.
YUKINO: Soubi is beautiful and masochistic and completely devoted to his friends. He's got a troubled and tortured past, and a deep love for the Aoyagi brothers....he'd defend them to his death if he had to. He's often not sure of what he wants and what he needs, but because he puts everyone else before himself, it doesn't matter. Plus, he's got that ever so metrosexual and vast wardrobe (which seems to have rubbed off on Ritsuka!), and you all know how important it is that my man is well dressed.....that and his symbol is the blue butterfly!!
